The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999545 is a reduced shank twist drill bit designed for general-purpose metal drilling in trade and industrial applications. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit features a 1-1/32 inch (1.0312 inch decimal) cutting diameter paired with a reduced 1/2 inch Weldon shank, allowing it to seat in standard 1/2 inch chuck equipment despite the oversized cutting head. The 118-degree standard point angle is suited to a broad range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3 inch flute length and a maximum drilling depth of 3 inches. The part weighs approximately 0.5 pounds.
This drill bit is intended for use on ferrous metals as its primary workpiece material, with rated secondary compatibility covering aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, synthetic materials, and cermet. The reduced shank design makes it practical on job sites where only 1/2 inch drill presses, magnetic drills, or hand drills are available, yet a larger bore diameter is required. It is a solid choice for HVAC fabricators, plumbers, pipefitters, electricians, and general contractors who need to drill large-diameter holes in sheet metal, angle iron, pipe hangers, or structural steel without upgrading to a larger chuck capacity. Series R57 follows ANSI standards. Sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 1.
Designed for use with 1/2 inch chuck drill presses, magnetic drills, and hand drill equipment. Rated for ferrous metals as the primary workpiece material and compatible with aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, cermet, and synthetic materials as secondary workpiece materials. Conforms to ANSI standards per Series R57 specifications.
Secure the Weldon shank fully in the chuck, engaging at least one flat with the set screw to prevent rotation under load. Always wear eye protection and clamp or secure the workpiece before drilling. Use cutting fluid on hard ferrous stock to extend bit life and maintain bore quality. Inspect the cutting edge before each use and replace or resharpen the bit if the edge is chipped or dull.
