The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999475 is a taper shank drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling in metal and general-purpose materials. Built from high speed steel with an oxide finish, it delivers consistent performance in machine shop and industrial maintenance applications. The bit features a 118-degree standard point angle with web thinning to reduce thrust and improve chip evacuation on entry. At 1.1719 inches (1-11/64 inch) in diameter with a 4MT taper shank, it is sized for use in taper-socket spindles on drill presses, lathes, and milling machines. Licensed machinists and industrial maintenance technicians are the primary installers.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and similar materials. The 4MT taper shank mounts directly into matching taper sockets without a separate chuck, making it a standard choice on larger floor-model drill presses and horizontal boring machines. The spiral flute geometry and right-hand cutting direction are consistent with ANSI standards for general-purpose HSS drill tooling. Its 7.375-inch flute length supports deeper holes relative to diameter, and the overall 13-inch length accommodates larger workpieces and fixtures.
Designed for use in any machine spindle or drill press quill with a 4MT (Morse Taper 4) socket. Fits standard ANSI taper tooling configurations common on industrial drill presses, engine lathes, and horizontal boring mills.
Installation is performed by machinists or qualified maintenance technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing the taper shank. Clean both the shank taper and the spindle socket thoroughly before seating to ensure full taper contact and prevent chatter. A taper drift and soft mallet are standard tools for removal. Verify spindle speed against recommended surface footage for the material being drilled before starting the cut.
