The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999468 is a taper shank drill bit built for heavy-duty drilling operations in metal fabrication, machine shops, and industrial maintenance environments. The bit measures 1.0313 inches (1-1/32 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 11.125 inches and a flute length of 6.5 inches. It features a 3MT (Morse Taper No. 3) shank for secure tool holding in compatible drill press spindles and lathes. Constructed from high speed steel with an oxide finish, this bit is rated for general-purpose cutting and is designed for right-hand cutting with a standard 118-degree point angle and web-thinned tip for improved penetration.
This taper shank drill bit is suited for production drilling and maintenance applications where a rigid, high-torque connection between spindle and tool is required. The 3MT shank seats directly into matching Morse taper spindles without a separate chuck, making it a common choice for drill presses, lathes, and milling machines used in metalworking. The regular spiral flute geometry and 4xD flute-to-diameter ratio support chip evacuation across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It conforms to ANSI standards and is manufactured under PRECISION TWIST DRILL Series 209.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit option for drill press spindles, lathes, and milling machines equipped with a No. 3 Morse Taper (3MT) socket. No chuck adapter required when spindle taper matches.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tool-and-die professional. Before inserting or removing the taper shank, power down and lock out the machine at the main disconnect per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Clean both the shank taper and the spindle socket of chips, oil, and debris before seating to ensure full contact and prevent fretting. Never force-drive a taper shank with a hammer against the spindle tang without a proper drift tool and drift slot.
