The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999446 is a screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-performance metal drilling applications. Manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with a coated finish, this bit features a 135-degree split point and web-thinned, tapered web construction that reduces walking and lowers thrust during entry. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 5/32 inch (0.1562 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 2-1/16 inches and a flute length of 1 inch. The right-hand spiral flute geometry and 2.5xD flute-to-diameter ratio promote efficient chip evacuation in demanding cuts. It is rated for heavy duty service and meets ANSI and NAS 907 specifications.
This screw machine length drill bit is designed for use in tight clearance and close-tolerance drilling environments where a shorter overall length provides better rigidity and control. The primary workpiece material rating is titanium, making it suitable for aerospace, industrial, and precision machining applications where standard drill bits may lack the performance characteristics required. It is also applicable to general ferrous and non-ferrous metal drilling where a stubby profile and high-performance geometry are preferred. Licensed machinists and industrial maintenance technicians are the typical installers.
Designed as a heavy duty screw machine length drill bit in the R40C series, rated for titanium and high-strength metals, compatible with any standard drill chuck or screw machine accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch diameter range.
This bit is installed and operated by machinists and industrial maintenance technicians using drill presses, CNC machines, or handheld power drills with compatible chucks. Ensure the workpiece is properly fixtured and the spindle speed is set appropriate to the workpiece material before beginning the cut. No coolant-through capability is present on this bit; apply cutting fluid externally as required by the workpiece material. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use and replace the bit if the point shows chipping or heat discoloration.
