The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999317 is a jobber-length drill bit in No. 2 wire size (0.2210 inches decimal), manufactured from high speed steel with a steam oxide coating. It features a 118-degree standard point angle, two spiral flutes in a regular helix, and a straight-cylindrical shank. The bit measures 3.875 inches overall length with a flute length of 2.625 inches. It is designed for general-purpose drilling in production and maintenance environments and is sized to meet ANSI and NAS 907 standards. Machinists, tool-and-die tradespeople, and maintenance mechanics are the primary installers.
This drill bit is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and other hard materials. The steam oxide finish provides mild lubricity and corrosion resistance during cutting operations. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust requirements when entering material. It is appropriate for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power drills in both shop and field maintenance contexts. Maximum drilling depth is 2.625 inches, making it well matched to through-hole and blind-hole work in medium-thickness stock.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with standard three-jaw drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.2210-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for use across Series R10A, R15A, and R18A application contexts per manufacturer designation.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance mechanics using a drill press, hand drill, or CNC spindle with an appropriate chuck or collet. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable tolerance for the application. Cutting fluid or appropriate coolant is recommended when drilling steel or stainless steel to extend tool life, though the bit is not coolant-through. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace if the point shows signs of thermal damage.
