The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999273 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in metal fabrication and precision machining applications. Built from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit features a 118-degree standard point angle and a right-hand spiral flute for consistent chip evacuation. At 0.104 inches (wire size 37) in diameter with an overall length of 1-13/16 inches and a flute length of 13/16 inches, it is optimized for short-reach, rigid setups where a jobber-length bit would introduce unnecessary deflection. The tapered web with web thinning reduces thrust and improves penetration in harder materials.
This drill bit is suited for use in screw machines, CNC turret lathes, drill presses, and production machining environments where close-tolerance hole placement is required. The Series R41 designation identifies it as a general-purpose, high-performance bit rated for drilling titanium as a primary workpiece material, making it appropriate for aerospace, medical, and precision industrial work. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and production floor operators working with non-ferrous and difficult-to-machine alloys are the primary end users.
Designed for use in screw machines, CNC turret lathes, and drill presses accepting straight-cylindrical shank bits. Sized to ANSI specification for wire size 37 (0.1040 inches), compatible with standard collets, chucks, and quick-change tooling rated for that shank diameter.
A licensed machinist or toolroom technician should verify chuck or collet runout before seating this bit, as small-diameter bits are sensitive to spindle eccentricity. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet to minimize deflection and avoid bit breakage. When drilling titanium or other difficult alloys, apply appropriate cutting fluid and use conservative feed rates to prevent work hardening. Inspect the cutting edges before each use; high-speed steel bits dulled on hard materials should be resharpened or replaced rather than forced.
