The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999256 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding trade and industrial applications. Built from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it measures 0.2055 inches in diameter and carries a 118-degree standard point angle. The overall length is 2-3/8 inches with a flute length of 1-1/4 inches, making it a compact stub-length tool suited for close-clearance work. A web-thinned, tapered web construction reduces thrust at the cutting edge and improves chip evacuation. This bit is part of the Series R41 and meets ANSI standards. Machinists, millwrights, and general metalworking shops are the primary users.
This screw machine length drill bit is rated for use on titanium as its primary workpiece material and is appropriate for general-purpose metal drilling across a variety of applications. The shorter flute-to-diameter ratio of 2.5xD provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, which is an advantage when drilling in drill presses, CNC machines, or manual mills where runout and deflection must be minimized. The right-hand spiral flute geometry and straight-cylindrical shank make it compatible with standard three-jaw chucks and collet systems. Coolant-through capability is not included in this design.
Designed as an OEM-style screw machine drill bit for use with standard straight-cylindrical shank drill chucks and collet holders in drill press, lathe, or CNC applications where a Wire Size 5 stub-length bit is specified.
This drill bit is installed and serviced by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance trades familiar with rotating cutting tools. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing bits. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in the chuck or collet to the manufacturer-specified clamping torque for the holder being used. Inspect the cutting edges and web for wear before each use, as high speed steel bits used on hard materials such as titanium are subject to accelerated edge wear without proper cutting fluid application.
