The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999209 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose hole-making in ferrous metals and cast iron. It carries a wire gauge size of 74, which corresponds to a decimal diameter of 0.0225 inches, and is manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish. The 118-degree standard point angle provides a versatile cutting geometry suited for a wide range of common shop and field drilling tasks. The bit features a spiral flute with a regular helix and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration to reduce thrust during entry. It is sold individually and must be ordered in multiples of 12.
This bit is intended for use in light-duty precision drilling applications where small-diameter holes are required. Primary workpiece materials include steel and cast iron. The straight-cylindrical shank seats in standard drill chucks without modification. With an overall length of 1 inch and a flute length of 0.25 inches, the R18P series bit is sized for compact fixtures, handheld drill drivers, and bench drill presses common in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general mechanical trades where small pilot or clearance holes are needed.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a straight-cylindrical shank at the 0.0225-inch diameter; suited for steel and cast iron workpieces per ANSI general-purpose drill bit specifications.
Install in a drill press or handheld drill driver with a chuck rated for small-diameter bits; secure the shank fully before operation to prevent runout. Use cutting fluid or coolant when drilling steel to extend bit life, even though coolant-through is not applicable on this solid bit. Inspect the point for wear or chipping before each use, as small-diameter HSS bits are susceptible to breakage under side load or excessive feed pressure. Dispose of worn bits per shop safety procedures.
