The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998973 is a taper length, straight-shank drill bit designed for general-purpose hole-making in a wide range of industrial and trade applications. Manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it measures 1.0625 inches in diameter with a 118-degree standard point angle. The spiral flute geometry and web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduce cutting resistance and improve chip evacuation. At 11.25 inches overall length with a 6.625-inch flute length, it delivers greater reach than a jobber-length bit, making it well suited for deep-hole drilling where standard lengths fall short. The right-hand cut direction is compatible with conventional drill press and machine tool setups.
This bit is built for machinists, maintenance mechanics, and metalworking trades that need a reliable general-purpose drill for production and repair work. The extended flute length supports drilling through thicker stock or structural sections without repositioning. The straight shank seats directly into standard drill chucks, making it straightforward to deploy on drill presses, lathes, and milling machines. It is appropriate for both shop and field use wherever a larger-diameter taper length bit is required.
Part of the PRECISION TWIST DRILL Series R51 taper length line. Designed for use in standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 1.0625-inch straight shank. Compatible material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, cermet, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or trades personnel familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the shank fully in a properly sized drill chuck before operation and verify chuck key removal before powering the spindle. Always wear appropriate eye protection and follow shop safety protocols for chip control when drilling cast iron, hardened steel, or other brittle materials. Match spindle speed and feed rate to the workpiece material to avoid overheating the cutting edge.
