The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998865 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed steel cutting in tight-tolerance drilling applications. Measuring 0.12 inches in diameter with an overall length of 1-7/8 inches and a flute length of 7/8 inch, this Series R41 bit delivers a compact stub-length profile that reduces deflection and improves hole accuracy in short-reach setups. The 118-degree standard point angle and web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduce entry force and improve chip evacuation. Licensed machinists, maintenance mechanics, and industrial tradespeople install and use this bit in drill press, CNC, and hand-drill operations.
This bit is suited for drilling titanium and general-purpose metals where a short, rigid drill geometry is required. The 2.5xD flute-to-diameter ratio provides adequate chip clearance without sacrificing rigidity. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks. Right-hand spiral flutes pull chips out of the hole during operation, keeping the cutting edge clear. The bright, uncoated finish is appropriate for dry cutting or cutting with standard coolant fluids where a coated surface is not required. No coolant-through capability is built into this bit.
Designed as a screw machine length replacement or production drill bit for applications requiring a 0.12 inch diameter hole in general-purpose and titanium workpieces, conforming to ANSI standards for straight-shank stub-length drill bits.
This bit is installed by machinists and maintenance mechanics in standard drill chucks accepting straight-cylindrical shanks. Ensure the drill press, CNC spindle, or hand drill is fully powered down and secured before changing bits. Verify chuck jaw condition and tighten securely to prevent bit slippage during operation. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable ANSI machining guidelines when drilling titanium or hard alloys, including appropriate eye protection and chip management.
