The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998837 is a jobber length drill bit sized to Letter A (15/64 inch, 0.2340 inch decimal) and manufactured from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish. It features a 118-degree standard point angle, a two-flute regular spiral configuration, and a web-thinned tapered web for improved chip evacuation and reduced thrust during entry. The straight cylindrical shank measures 0.2340 inch in diameter and seats securely in standard drill chucks. Overall length is 3.875 inches with a flute length of 2.625 inches, providing an 11xD flute-to-diameter ratio suited to general-purpose drilling work. This bit complies with ANSI standards and is part of the R10P-R15P-R18P series.
This drill bit is designed for right-hand cutting in a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and other hard materials. It is a general-purpose tool appropriate for use in production drilling, maintenance and repair, and fabrication settings. Machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and maintenance technicians commonly use jobber length bits of this size for through-hole and blind-hole drilling in both hand-held and machine-mounted drill applications.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber length drill bit compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.2340 inch straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for use in benchtop drill presses, CNC machining centers, magnetic drills, and hand-held power drills across production and field applications.
Secure the shank fully into the drill chuck and verify concentricity before operation. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling steel, stainless steel, or hard materials to extend tool life and reduce heat buildup. Do not exceed the recommended drilling depth of 2.625 inches as indicated by the flute length. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the point angle or web geometry is compromised.
