The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998628 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding production environments. Built from high speed steel with a coated finish, this bit features a 135-degree split point and web-thinned, tapered web construction that reduces walking and lowers thrust during entry. At 0.1695 inches in diameter (wire size #18) and 2.125 inches overall length, it fits standard straight-cylindrical chucks and operates in right-hand cut, spiral flute configuration. It is suited for machinists, toolroom techs, and production drilling operations requiring close-tolerance holes.
This bit is engineered for primary use on titanium workpieces and other hard, high-strength materials where a heavy-duty grade and high-performance tool classification are required. The screw machine length body — shorter than a jobber bit — improves rigidity and reduces deflection in drill press, CNC, and turret lathe applications. The R41C series follows ANSI and NAS 907 specifications, making it a fit for aerospace and precision manufacturing workflows where dimensional and material standards are enforced. It is sold individually, with a minimum order of 12 units.
Designed for use with standard straight-cylindrical chuck drill presses, CNC machining centers, and turret lathes accepting a 0.1695-inch straight shank. Rated for titanium as the primary workpiece material within the R41C series, diameter range 0.1500 to 0.2000 inches.
Install in a calibrated chuck and verify runout before drilling into titanium or high-strength alloys. Secure the workpiece firmly to prevent movement during entry. Coolant-through is not supported by this bit, so apply cutting fluid externally to the work zone when drilling hard materials. Follow applicable shop safety standards and wear appropriate eye protection during operation.
