The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998406 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal fabrication, maintenance, and light industrial applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright uncoated finish, this bit measures 5/64 inch (0.0781 inch) in diameter with a 2-inch overall length and a 1-inch flute length. The 118-degree standard point angle and web-thinned, tapered web construction allow for clean entry and reduced thrust when drilling into steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and skilled tradespeople are the primary users of this bit.
The 5998406 is suited for production and job-site drilling on steel structural members, cast iron components, aluminum, brass, copper, and titanium alloys. Its straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without modification. The 2-flute spiral design with regular spiral type provides efficient chip evacuation during through-hole and blind-hole operations. This bit conforms to ANSI standards and falls within the R10H-R18H series, which covers the decimal range of 0.0500 to 0.1000 inch diameter bits. Maximum recommended drilling depth is 1 inch, consistent with the flute length.
Designed for drilling into steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium; compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a straight cylindrical shank in the 5/64 inch size. Fits within the ANSI jobber-length drill bit standard for the 0.0500 to 0.1000 inch diameter range.
Secure the bit firmly in the drill chuck before operation and verify chuck runout is within acceptable tolerance for the application. Power down the drill completely before changing or inspecting bits. For drilling into harder alloys such as superalloys or titanium, use the lowest appropriate spindle speed to preserve edge life and prevent premature wear. Follow applicable shop safety practices and applicable ANSI standards when operating rotary cutting tools.
