The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998396 is a jobber-length drill bit in wire gauge size 38, with a decimal diameter of 0.1015 inches. It is manufactured from high speed steel with a steam oxide coating that helps resist corrosion and reduces friction during drilling. The bit features a 118-degree standard point angle, a two-flute spiral configuration with a tapered web and web-thinned geometry, and a straight-cylindrical shank. Overall length is 2.5 inches. This bit is suited for general-purpose production drilling and is installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool and die professionals working with a wide range of materials.
The 5998396 is designed for drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and other hard materials. It carries an ANSI specification designation and belongs to the Series R10-R15-R18 product line from PRECISION TWIST DRILL. Typical applications include production drilling, maintenance and repair operations, and general fabrication work where consistent hole quality and tool life in metallic workpieces are required. The regular spiral type and 14xD flute-to-diameter ratio support chip evacuation in standard drilling conditions without coolant-through capability.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit conforming to ANSI standards, compatible with standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.1015-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Install and remove drill bits only after the drilling machine spindle has come to a complete stop and the machine is powered off or locked out per applicable OSHA lockout-tagout procedures. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized drill chuck or collet before operation. This bit does not support coolant-through delivery; apply cutting fluid externally when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges and point geometry before each use and replace bits showing chipping, blunting, or wear that affects hole quality.
