The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998378 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose hole-making in metalworking and fabrication applications. Measuring 3/16 inch (0.1875 inch) in diameter with an overall length of 3.5 inches, this bit is manufactured from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish. The 118-degree standard point angle and web-thinned, tapered web configuration help reduce thrust and improve centering on entry. Two spiral flutes provide chip evacuation throughout the 2-5/16-inch flute length. Licensed tradespeople and machinists working on production or maintenance tasks rely on this bit for consistent, repeatable performance across a broad range of base materials.
This drill bit is suited for drilling operations in steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. The straight cylindrical shank with a 3/16-inch shank diameter seats directly into standard keyed or keyless drill chucks without an adapter. At 3.5 inches overall length, the R10H series profile fits standard benchtop drill presses, hand drills, and magnetic drills used in mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trade work. Maximum drilling depth is 2-5/16 inches (2.3125 inches). Coolant-through capability is not available on this model, making it appropriate for dry or externally lubricated drilling setups.
Designed for use in standard 3/16-inch drill chucks on benchtop drill presses, hand drills, and magnetic drills. Primary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium as identified by material codes P, K, N, and S.
Install this bit into a properly rated drill chuck and tighten securely before operation. Machinists and trade professionals should select an appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling ferrous metals to extend bit life and improve hole finish. Operate at a spindle speed appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter per standard machining reference tables. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the point shows signs of dulling or damage.
