The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998323 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in a wide range of materials. Ground from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it features a 118-degree standard point angle and a regular spiral flute configuration. The bit measures 5/32 inch (0.1563 inch decimal) in diameter with an overall length of 3.125 inches and a flute length of 2 inches. Web thinning reduces thrust requirements and improves centering at the start of a cut. A straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard 3-jaw chucks. This bit is installed by machinists, HVAC technicians, plumbers, and electricians for general metalwork and fixture drilling tasks.
This drill bit is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and other hard materials. It performs well in hand drills, drill presses, and light CNC setups where a general-purpose jobber-length bit is appropriate. The Series R10P designation places it within the Precision Twist Drill standard jobber line, which follows ANSI specifications for geometry and tolerances. Typical applications include conduit mounting, bracket fabrication, pipe flange work, and general sheet metal or structural drilling encountered in trade service work.
Designed as a general-purpose OEM-style jobber drill bit compatible with any standard 3-jaw drill chuck accepting a 5/32-inch straight-cylindrical shank, including hand drills, drill presses, and light machining equipment.
Installation is performed by any trade professional using a hand drill or drill press. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before applying power, and confirm the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent rotation. Apply cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to extend bit life and manage heat. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the point is damaged, as a dull bit increases thrust load and can cause workpiece damage or injury.
