The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5998052 is a taper length drill bit designed for professional metalworking and machining applications. Built from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it features a 135-degree split point angle that enables self-centering starts without a center punch. The parabolic flute geometry and web-thinned, tapered web configuration promote efficient chip evacuation, reducing heat buildup during deep-hole drilling. At 2.50 mm (0.0984 inches) in diameter with a 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio, this bit is suited for extended-reach drilling where a standard-length bit would fall short. Right-hand cut only. Conforms to DIN 340 specification.
This taper length drill bit is used in production and maintenance environments where deep holes must be drilled in a wide range of metals without pilot drilling. The longer flute length relative to diameter makes it well suited for through-hole applications in plate stock, structural shapes, and machined components. It installs in standard straight-shank drill chucks on drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power drills. The non-coolant-through design is appropriate for conventional dry or flood-lubricated setups.
Rated for drilling alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, graphite, hardened steel, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, stainless steel, steel, tempered steel, titanium, and titanium alloy. Fits any straight-shank chuck sized for a 0.0984-inch (2.50 mm) shank diameter.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a keyed or keyless drill chuck. Secure the straight shank firmly before starting the spindle to prevent slippage. Always apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve hole finish. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use; a damaged split point will reduce self-centering effectiveness and can cause bit breakage in harder materials.
