The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997976 is a taper length, high speed steel (HSS) drill bit engineered for heavy-duty general purpose drilling across a wide range of metals and materials. Built to the QC91P series specification, it carries a wire gauge size of 15, which corresponds to 0.1800 inches in decimal. The 135-degree split point with web thinning allows self-centering entry without a center punch, reducing setup time and walking on hard surfaces. The parabolic flute geometry, ground to a 6xD flute-length-to-diameter ratio, promotes efficient chip evacuation during deep-hole drilling. The bright, uncoated finish makes wear and edge condition easy to inspect in the field.
This drill bit is suited for professional machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators working in job shops, MRO environments, and light manufacturing settings. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without an adapter. At 3.375 inches of flute length and 5.75 inches overall length, it provides reach beyond what a jobber-length bit offers while remaining practical for bench drill presses and hand-held drilling operations. The right-hand cut and tapered web configuration are consistent with standard shop practice for through-hole and blind-hole applications in production and repair contexts.
Designed as an OEM-style taper length drill bit for use in standard drill presses, CNC drilling centers, and hand-held drills fitted with a straight-shank chuck. Rated for drilling alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, graphite, hardened steel, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, stainless steel, steel, tempered steel, titanium, and titanium alloy.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a standard drill chuck rated for the shank diameter. Power down and de-energize the drilling machine before inserting or removing the bit. Secure the shank fully in the chuck jaws and confirm concentricity before beginning a cut. Do not exceed the speed and feed recommendations appropriate for the work material and bit diameter to avoid premature edge wear or breakage.
