The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997973 is a taper length high speed steel drill bit designed for heavy-duty general purpose drilling across a wide range of metals and materials. Built to the QC91P series standard, it features a 135-degree split point for self-centering entry without a center punch, reducing walking on hard or smooth surfaces. The parabolic flute geometry improves chip evacuation and allows faster feed rates compared to standard spiral flutes. At 0.1820 inches in diameter (wire size 14) with a 3-3/8 inch flute length and 5-3/4 inch overall length, this bit fills the gap between jobber-length and extended-reach drilling applications. The straight shank seats in standard drill chucks without adapters.
This bit is suited for use in handheld drill drivers, drill presses, and CNC drilling operations where a longer flute-to-diameter ratio is needed to reach deeper hole depths. The 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio makes it appropriate for through-hole drilling in structural components, plate stock, and fabrication work. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust requirements, which is especially useful when drilling harder alloys or when working with smaller horsepower machines. Licensed electricians, pipefitters, fabricators, and HVAC technicians will find this bit useful for field drilling tasks requiring more reach than a standard jobber bit provides.
Rated for drilling in alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, graphite, hardened steel, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, stainless steel, steel, tempered steel, titanium, and titanium alloy as specified by the manufacturer.
Secure the workpiece before drilling and confirm chuck jaws are fully tightened on the straight shank before operation. Power down and de-energize any equipment before drilling into live assemblies or energized enclosures. Use cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel, titanium, or hardened alloys to extend edge life. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or heat discoloration is visible at the point.
