The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997868 is a cobalt high-speed steel jobber-length drill bit sized at wire gauge 45 (0.0820 inches decimal). It features a 135-degree split point with web thinning for reduced thrust and more accurate starting on steel and hard alloys. The straw oxide finish provides light lubrication and corrosion resistance during drilling. With a right-hand spiral flute and straight cylindrical shank, this bit is designed for general-purpose drilling in production and maintenance environments. Licensed HVAC techs, machinists, pipefitters, and sheet metal workers reach for cobalt bits when drilling through harder steels where standard HSS dulls quickly. The overall length is 2.125 inches with a 1.125-inch flute length.
This drill bit is suited for drilling ferrous metals including carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous materials. It is rated for primary workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, and S, making it versatile across steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous, and heat-resistant alloys. The 14xD flute-to-diameter ratio and tapered web configuration support chip evacuation in deeper holes up to 1.125 inches. Typical applications include tapping pilot holes, sheet metal fabrication, mechanical assembly, and repair work where bit durability and dimensional accuracy matter.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit cobalt jobber drill bit for use in any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.0820-inch straight shank. Part of the R10CO-R15CO-R18CO series from PRECISION TWIST DRILL.
This bit is installed by machinists, sheet metal workers, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians using standard drill presses, hand drills, or CNC equipment with a compatible chuck. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling steel to extend bit life and maintain hole quality. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use and replace the bit if chipping or dullness is observed.
