The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997807 is a wire-gauge size 69 cobalt jobber-length drill bit engineered for accurate hole-making in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Measuring 0.0292 inches in diameter with a 135-degree split-point geometry, it starts on location without a center punch and reduces walking on hard surfaces. The straw oxide finish provides lubricity and mild heat resistance. At 1.375 inches overall length with a 0.5-inch flute, this is a compact, heavy-duty bit sized for precision work in tight clearances. It is typically installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, HVAC service techs, and electricians drilling through sheet metal, steel brackets, and control panels.
This bit is suited for drilling steel, stainless, cast iron, aluminum, and non-metallic materials in both production and field-service environments. The regular spiral flute clears chips efficiently at small diameters, reducing the risk of bit breakage in deep relative-to-diameter passes. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard drill chucks on hand drills, drill presses, and CNC tooling. Its 17xD flute-to-diameter ratio and web-thinned tip are optimized for general-purpose drilling where a small wire-gauge hole is required at consistent tolerance. Series R10CO-R15CO-R18CO denotes the cobalt grade and oxide-finish family within the PRECISION TWIST DRILL lineup.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and general-purpose wire-gauge drill bit for use in standard 3-jaw drill chucks accepting a 0.0292-inch straight cylindrical shank. Compatible workpiece materials per manufacturer designation include steel (P), stainless and heat-resistant alloys (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous (N), and high-temperature alloys (S).
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or trade technician familiar with small-diameter drill bit handling. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent bit deflection or breakage at this diameter. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling ferrous metals to extend tool life. Operate at manufacturer-recommended spindle speeds for cobalt bits at this diameter, and avoid excessive feed pressure that can snap small-gauge bits.
