The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997764 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit sized to wire gauge No. 42 (0.0938 inches, 3/32 inches) with a 135-degree split-point geometry. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a straw oxide coating, this bit handles demanding drilling in steel, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temp alloys. The web-thinned, tapered web design reduces entry force and improves chip clearing. Overall length is 2.25 inches with a 1.25-inch flute and a 1-inch straight cylindrical shank. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, sheet metal workers, and maintenance mechanics rely on this bit for production and repair drilling.
This drill bit is suited to general-purpose drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials including steel, cast iron, stainless, aluminum, and high-temperature alloys, consistent with its P, M, K, N, and S workpiece material codes. The 135-degree split point self-centers on most workpiece surfaces without a center punch, making it practical for layout-sensitive or repetitive drilling operations on manual mills, drill presses, and hand-held power tools. It conforms to ANSI standards and NAS 907 specification, making it a valid choice where those specs are called out on a print or work order.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose jobber drill bit for use in any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.0938-inch straight cylindrical shank; part of the PRECISION TWIST DRILL Series R10CO-R15CO-R18CO cobalt drill line.
Install in a properly rated drill chuck with matching collet or jaw capacity before engaging the spindle. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent rotation or movement. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling steel or stainless to extend bit life. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use; a damaged cutting edge can cause bit breakage or oversize holes.
