The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997748 is a cobalt high-speed steel jobber-length drill bit sized at No. 32 (0.116 inches decimal equivalent). Ground to a 135-degree split point with web thinning, it bites into workpieces faster and with less walking than a standard 118-degree tip. The regular spiral flute and straight cylindrical shank make it compatible with standard drill chucks. At 2.75 inches overall length with a 1.625-inch flute length, this is a compact, general-purpose bit built for heavy-duty drilling in steel and other demanding materials. The straw oxide finish provides basic lubricity and corrosion resistance. Suitable for use by machinists, maintenance technicians, and metalworking tradespeople.
This drill bit is intended for drilling in steel, cast iron, aluminum, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys, as indicated by its P, M, K, N, and S material codes. It performs well in general-purpose production and maintenance drilling scenarios where dimensional accuracy and bit longevity in tough materials are required. The 14xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation at standard drilling depths up to 1.625 inches. It is manufactured to ANSI and NAS 907 specifications, making it suitable for aerospace and precision shop applications within the R10CO-R15CO-R18CO series.
Belongs to the PRECISION TWIST DRILL R10CO-R15CO-R18CO series. Suitable for use in standard drill chucks accepting straight cylindrical shanks at 0.116-inch diameter. Primary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, aluminum, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys per P, M, K, N, and S material codes.
Installation is performed by machinists and metalworking technicians using standard drill presses, CNC machines, or hand-held drills with compatible chucks. Secure the workpiece and ensure the chuck is tightened fully before operation. Use cutting fluid appropriate for the base material to extend bit life and maintain hole quality. Inspect the cutting edges before use and discard bits showing chipping or excessive wear.
