The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997660 is a jobber-length twist drill bit in wire size No. 6 (0.2040 inches decimal), designed for general-purpose drilling in metalworking applications. Built from high speed steel with a steam oxide coating, the bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on contact and allows drilling to start without a center punch on most setups. The spiral flute geometry and right-hand cut produce clean chip evacuation in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. With an overall length of 3.75 inches and a flute length of 2.5 inches, this is a standard jobber proportions bit suited for production and maintenance drilling tasks performed by machinists and maintenance technicians.
This drill bit is intended for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and other hard materials. It is well-suited for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power drills where a straight-cylindrical shank is required. The R18B series designation and NAS 907 specification make it a recognized standard in aerospace and industrial maintenance environments. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in fabrication shops, HVAC equipment manufacturing, and general metalworking.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose jobber drill bit compatible with any drill press, hand drill, or machining center accepting a straight-cylindrical shank. Meets ANSI standards and NAS 907 specification designation. Part of the R10B-R15B-R18B series from Precision Twist Drill.
Installation is performed by machinists, toolroom technicians, or maintenance mechanics using a standard keyed or keyless drill chuck sized to accept a 0.2040-inch straight shank. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation to prevent runout or bit pull-out during drilling. Match spindle speed to workpiece material and bit diameter using published cutting-speed tables for high speed steel tooling. Do not force the bit through hard material at excessive feed rates, as this will shorten tool life and can cause breakage.
