The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997436 is a taper length drill bit engineered for demanding metal-cutting applications. Built from high speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, it features a 12.5 mm (0.4921 inch) diameter and a 135-degree split point for self-centering starts that reduce walking on hard surfaces. The parabolic flute geometry provides an aggressive chip evacuation path, keeping the cutting zone clear during deep-hole operations. With a 6xD flute-length-to-diameter ratio, this bit is built for taper length reach beyond what a jobber-length drill offers. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians install this type of bit in standard drill presses, CNC machining centers, and magnetic base drills.
This drill bit is suited for a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, tempered steel, cast iron, malleable iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, copper, nickel, titanium, titanium alloy, magnesium, magnesium alloy, and graphite. The taper length body allows access to deeper features or recessed bores where a standard jobber drill cannot reach. It is equally at home in production floor environments and job-site maintenance settings where versatile material coverage is required.
Designed as an OEM-style taper length drill bit conforming to DIN 340 standards, suitable for use in standard drill presses, CNC machining centers, and handheld drilling equipment accepting a 12.5 mm straight shank.
Install and remove this bit only after the spindle has come to a complete stop and the machine is locked out per applicable safety procedures. Secure the straight shank fully in the chuck or collet to the recommended engagement depth before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material, particularly when drilling stainless steel, hardened steel, or titanium alloys, to extend bit life and prevent work hardening. Inspect the cutting edges and web for wear before each use; a dull split point increases thrust load and can lead to bit breakage or workpiece damage.
