The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997421 is a taper length drill bit from the QC91P series, designed for high-performance drilling in metal fabrication, maintenance, and general machining applications. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, it features a 135-degree split point and parabolic flute geometry that reduces cutting resistance and improves chip evacuation. The bit measures 5/32 inch (0.1562 inch decimal) in diameter, with a 3-inch flute length and a 5-3/8 inch overall length, giving it a 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio suited for deeper-than-standard hole applications. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators install this bit in standard drill presses, hand drills, and CNC equipment.
This taper length drill bit is engineered for general-purpose use across a broad range of materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, tempered steel, cast iron, malleable iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, copper, graphite, magnesium, magnesium alloy, nickel, titanium, and titanium alloy. The self-centering 135-degree split point starts on contact without a center punch in most applications. The tapered web and web-thinned geometry are particularly useful in production environments where minimizing thrust force and heat buildup is a priority.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit compatible with a wide range of materials including ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, and alloys as specified by the manufacturer. Fits standard drill chucks accepting a 0.1563-inch straight cylindrical shank.
Installation is performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators using standard three-jaw drill chucks on bench drills, drill presses, or portable hand drills. Ensure the chuck is fully tightened and the workpiece is securely clamped before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling ferrous metals or hardened materials to extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the point is damaged.
