The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997235 is a taper length drill bit engineered for heavy-duty metal drilling across a wide range of materials. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright/uncoated finish, this bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and allows self-centering entry without a center punch in many applications. The parabolic flute geometry, running 4.625 inches along a 7.25-inch overall length, promotes aggressive chip evacuation and improved cutting efficiency. The straight cylindrical shank measures 27/64 inch (0.4219 inch decimal), and the bit carries a 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio suited to deeper hole applications where a jobber-length bit falls short.
This drill bit is designed for general-purpose and heavy-duty drilling in shop, fabrication, and maintenance environments. It is appropriate for use in drill presses, milling machines, and hand-held electric drills where a taper length bit is specified. The QC91P series targets machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance trades working with metals ranging from soft aluminum and copper alloys to hardened steel, stainless steel, titanium alloys, and cast iron. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust requirements when drilling tougher materials.
Rated for drilling alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, graphite, hardened steel, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, stainless steel, steel, tempered steel, titanium, and titanium alloy. Coolant-through capability is not available on this bit.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a standard drill press, lathe, or milling machine with an appropriate chuck or collet sized for a 27/64 inch straight shank. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and confirm the spindle speed matches the material being cut. Power down and de-energize the machine before changing or inspecting the bit. Do not exceed the rated feed and speed parameters for the material application to avoid premature wear or bit failure.
