The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997193 is a 1/2 inch (0.5000 inch) diameter taper length drill bit engineered for heavy-duty general-purpose drilling across a wide range of metallic and non-metallic materials. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright/uncoated finish, it features a 135-degree split point for self-centering starts that eliminate the need for a center punch on most surfaces. The parabolic flute geometry, rated at a 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio, promotes aggressive chip evacuation and reduces heat buildup during deep-hole drilling. The straight shank measures 1/2 inch in diameter and seats directly in standard drill chucks. Overall length is 7-3/4 inches with a flute length of 4-3/4 inches. This bit is web-thinned with a tapered web configuration for improved cutting efficiency.
The 5997193 is suited for production and maintenance drilling in metal fabrication shops, mechanical contracting, and industrial service environments. It performs across alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, tempered steel, cast iron, malleable iron, aluminum and aluminum alloys, brass, bronze, copper, magnesium and magnesium alloys, nickel, titanium and titanium alloys, and graphite. It is part of the QC91P series, which is oriented toward heavy-duty general-purpose applications where consistent hole quality and chip clearing are priorities.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard taper length drill bit for any 1/2 inch straight-shank drill chuck application. Compatible material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, graphite, hardened steel, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, stainless steel, steel, tempered steel, titanium, and titanium alloy as specified by the manufacturer for QC91P series tooling.
Installation is performed by machinists, millwrights, or qualified maintenance technicians. Secure the straight shank fully into a properly sized drill chuck before operation and confirm the chuck is tightened at all three keyways where applicable. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain hole quality. Power down the drill press or deactivate the handheld drill and allow the spindle to come to a full stop before bit changes or workpiece adjustments.
