The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997181 is a taper length, high speed steel drill bit engineered for heavy-duty general purpose drilling across a wide range of materials. Built to the QC91P series standard, it features a 135-degree split point for self-centering entry without a center punch, reducing walk and improving hole accuracy. The parabolic flute geometry with a 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio promotes rapid chip evacuation, keeping the cutting zone clear during deeper passes. At 0.1990 inches in diameter (wire size 8) with a bright/uncoated finish, this bit suits applications where coating is not required and where frequent resharpening is anticipated. Licensed machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals handling structural or mechanical assemblies are the primary installers.
This drill bit is suited for use on ferrous and non-ferrous metals including alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, malleable iron, hardened steel, tempered steel, and titanium alloys, as well as non-ferrous materials such as aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, copper, magnesium, magnesium alloy, nickel, and graphite. Its taper length body and parabolic flute design make it a practical choice for production drilling, maintenance repair operations, and fabrication environments where chip clearance and hole consistency are priorities.
Designed as an OEM-style general purpose taper length drill bit compatible with standard straight-shank drill chucks and drilling equipment accepting a 0.1990-inch shank diameter.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or trade technicians familiar with metalworking equipment. Secure the workpiece and ensure the drill chuck is properly tightened before operation. Power down and de-energize all drilling equipment before changing bits. Do not exceed the recommended speed and feed rates for the material being drilled, and use appropriate cutting fluid when working with ferrous metals or stainless steel to extend tool life.
