The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997166 is a jobber-length twist drill bit sized to wire gauge 42, equivalent to 0.0935 inches (3/32 inch) in diameter. Ground from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it features a 135-degree split-point geometry with web thinning to reduce walking and lower thrust on entry. The parabolic spiral flute with tapered web design clears chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole drilling. This is a general-purpose, heavy-duty rated bit suited for machinists, maintenance technicians, and metalworking trades who need reliable small-diameter drilling performance across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
The 5997166 is designed for drilling operations in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. With an overall length of 2.25 inches and a flute length of 1.25 inches, it fits standard drill presses, hand drills, and CNC spindles accepting a straight cylindrical shank. It is well suited to production shops, tool rooms, and field maintenance applications where small wire-gauge holes are required to ANSI dimensional standards. The right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional drilling setups.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit for use in standard 3-jaw drill chucks, keyless chucks, and collet systems accepting a 0.0935-inch straight cylindrical shank. Conforms to ANSI standards for jobber-length drill bits in wire gauge sizes.
Install and remove drill bits only when the drill press or power tool is fully powered down and the chuck has stopped rotating. Secure the shank firmly in the chuck and verify runout before drilling to protect the small-diameter bit from deflection and breakage. Use appropriate cutting fluid for steel and stainless applications to extend tool life. Wear eye protection at all times when operating drilling equipment.
