The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997138 is a taper length, high-speed steel drill bit in the QC91P series, designed for demanding drilling applications across a wide range of metals and alloys. Built to ANSI standards, it features a 135-degree split point for self-centering entry without a center punch, a parabolic flute geometry for efficient chip evacuation, and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration for reduced thrust and cleaner hole entry. The straight shank measures 0.1285 inches in diameter, matching the No. 30 wire gauge size. At 3 inches of flute length relative to a 5-3/8-inch overall length, this is a heavy-duty general-purpose bit suited for machinists, fabricators, and maintenance technicians working in production or field environments.
This drill bit is rated for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, hardened steel, tempered steel, stainless steel, cast iron, malleable iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, copper, magnesium, magnesium alloy, nickel, titanium, titanium alloy, and graphite. The 6xD flute-length-to-diameter ratio makes it well suited for deeper hole applications where a jobber-length bit would be too short. Right-hand cut configuration is standard for conventional drill press, mill, or hand-drill setups. Coolant-through capability is not included in this design.
Compatible with all standard straight-shank drill chucks accepting a 0.1285-inch shank diameter. Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit for use across the listed ferrous and non-ferrous materials in production machining, fabrication, and maintenance applications.
Install in a keyed or keyless drill chuck rated for straight-shank bits at or above 0.1285 inches. Ensure the work piece is securely clamped before drilling to prevent rotation or movement. Apply cutting fluid or coolant when drilling hardened steel, stainless steel, titanium, or other high-resistance alloys to extend tool life, even though the bit does not support through-coolant delivery. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use and replace when the point shows signs of chipping or dulling to maintain hole quality and prevent tool breakage.
