The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997134 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in a wide range of materials. Built from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements compared to conventional 118-degree points. The parabolic spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation during deeper passes. At 4.125 inches overall length with a 2.875-inch flute, this bit fits standard three-jaw chucks on corded drills, drill presses, and CNC lathes without modification. It is suited for maintenance technicians, fabricators, and trade professionals who drill metal regularly.
This bit is rated for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. Its 11xD flute-to-diameter ratio gives adequate depth capacity for most through-hole and blind-hole applications in sheet metal, structural steel, pipe, and plate. The straight cylindrical shank at 0.2656 inches diameter matches the 17/64-inch drill size, so no reduction sleeve is needed in most standard chucks. It follows ANSI jobber-length standards, making it a direct fit wherever an ANSI-spec bit of this diameter is called out.
Designed as an ANSI-standard jobber-length drill bit in the Series QC21P, compatible with any drill press, hand drill, or CNC machine that accepts a straight cylindrical shank at 0.2656 inches diameter.
Install in a properly tightened three-jaw or keyless chuck before powering the machine. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent rotation and bit breakage. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to extend bit life and manage heat. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use; a dull bit increases thrust and can cause work hardening in stainless and titanium substrates.
