The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997028 is a No. 7 wire-size jobber-length drill bit machined from high-speed steel and left bright/uncoated for general-purpose drilling applications. It carries a 135-degree split-point geometry with web thinning, which reduces walking at entry and lowers thrust requirements compared to a standard 118-degree point. The two-flute spiral configuration runs a 12xD flute-to-diameter ratio, giving adequate chip clearance in moderate-depth holes. At 0.2010 inches in diameter with a 3.625-inch overall length and a 2.4375-inch flute length, this bit fits standard drill chucks and magnetic-base units without an adapter. It is built to ANSI standards and rated as a heavy-duty grade jobber.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. The straight cylindrical shank seats cleanly in keyed or keyless chucks on handheld drills, drill presses, and CNC drilling stations. The QC21P series is designed for general-purpose hole-making where a no-frills, reliable HSS bit is the practical choice. Maximum drilling depth matches the flute length at 2.4375 inches, making it appropriate for through-holes and shallow blind holes in typical structural and sheet-stock thicknesses.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or stocking jobber bit for any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.2010-inch straight cylindrical shank. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium per the manufacturer material codes P, M, K, N, and S.
Installation is performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals using standard drill chucks on handheld or bench-mounted equipment. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and confirm runout is within acceptable limits before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for ferrous materials to extend tool life, noting that this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edges and web for wear or chipping before each use, and replace the bit when point geometry degrades to avoid oversize or out-of-round holes.
