The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5997016 is a high speed steel jobber-length drill bit sized to wire gauge 32 (0.1160 inches decimal). It features a 135-degree split point with web thinning, which reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements compared to a standard 118-degree point. The bright uncoated finish suits general-purpose drilling in steel, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials. With an overall length of 2.75 inches and a 1.625-inch flute length, this bit fits standard drill chucks on benchtop drill presses and handheld power tools. It is part of the QC21P series and conforms to ANSI standards. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and metalworking tradespeople are the primary users.
This drill bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals including steel and aluminum. The 14xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral flute geometry provide good chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole applications at wire-gauge diameters. Typical applications include pilot holes, clearance holes, and light sheet metal work where a small-diameter, general-purpose bit is required. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard Jacobs-style chucks without any adapter.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber drill bit compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.1160-inch straight cylindrical shank. Rated for use in steel, aluminum, and non-ferrous workpiece materials per ANSI standards.
A licensed machinist or qualified maintenance technician should secure the shank fully in a properly sized drill chuck before use. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent rotation at small-diameter drill sizes. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid when drilling ferrous metals to extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use, as small-diameter bits are susceptible to breakage if run at incorrect speeds or feeds.
