The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996978 is a jobber-length drill bit sized to No. 2 wire gauge (0.2210 inches diameter), designed for general-purpose drilling in metal fabrication, maintenance, and production environments. The bit is manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish and features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on entry and requires no center-punch on most surfaces. The two-flute, right-hand spiral configuration clears chips efficiently. At 3.875 inches overall length with a 2.625-inch flute length, it fits standard 3-jaw and keyless chucks without modification. This is a hand-tool and machine-tool consumable installed by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, HVAC mechanics, plumbers, and electricians for general metalwork tasks.
This bit is suited for drilling steel, aluminum, and other non-ferrous metals in both light production and field-service applications. The straight cylindrical shank seats in standard drill press chucks, hand drills, and right-angle drill adapters. The QC21P series is a general-purpose line intended for everyday drilling where a coated or specialty bit is not required. Typical applications include sheet metal, structural steel, aluminum extrusions, copper pipe flanges, and conduit work requiring a No. 2 wire-gauge hole.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length replacement or consumable drill bit for use in standard drill presses, CNC drilling machines, hand drills, and right-angle drills accepting a 0.2210-inch straight shank. Conforms to ANSI standards for jobber-length drill bits in the 0.2000 to 0.2500 inch diameter range.
A licensed electrician, machinist, or qualified tradesperson should verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material before drilling. Ensure the drill press or hand tool is powered down and the chuck key is removed before loading the bit. Secure the workpiece with a vise or clamp — never hold thin sheet metal by hand during drilling. Regrinding is possible given the bright uncoated finish, and should be performed at the same 135-degree included angle to maintain point geometry.
