The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996953 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal and hard materials. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and improves bite on flat and curved surfaces. The parabolic flute geometry promotes faster chip evacuation, reducing heat buildup during extended drilling cycles. At 6.625 inches overall length with a 4.8125-inch flute length, this bit handles deeper holes without changing to a longer-series tool. It is part of the QC21P series and is sized at 33/64 inch (0.5156 inch decimal) with a matching straight cylindrical shank.
This drill bit is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. It fits standard drill presses, magnetic drills, and hand-held power drills with appropriate chuck capacity. The two-flute, right-hand-cut design makes it compatible with conventional spindle rotation. Typical users include machinists, millwrights, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians working on structural, fabrication, and mechanical assembly tasks. The web-thinned, tapered web construction reduces thrust load on harder workpiece materials.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with any drill press, magnetic base drill, or handheld drill with a chuck capacity of 33/64 inch or larger. Conforms to ANSI standards for jobber-length drill bits in the QC21P series.
Drill bit installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or tradesperson familiar with rotating cutting tools. Ensure the drill chuck is fully tightened and the workpiece is securely clamped before initiating a cut. Apply appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to extend tool life and manage heat. Inspect the cutting edges and web for wear or damage before each use and replace if the tip shows chipping or dulling.
