The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996950 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal and hard materials. It measures 31/64 inches (0.4844 inches) in diameter with a 5-7/8 inches overall length. The bit is ground from high speed steel and carries a bright, uncoated finish. A 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and requires no center punch on most surfaces. The parabolic flute geometry promotes chip evacuation, which is critical when drilling deeper holes in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. This is a right-hand cut, two-flute bit suited for use in drill presses, hand drills, and mill setups.
The 5996950 fits standard jobber-length applications across fabrication shops, maintenance facilities, and field service work. Its straight cylindrical shank seats in standard three-jaw chucks without modification. The 4-3/8 inch flute length supports a maximum drilling depth of 4-3/8 inches, making it appropriate for through-holes in medium-thickness stock. Trades that commonly use this bit include pipefitters, HVAC installers, electricians, and general maintenance mechanics drilling mounting holes, conduit knock-outs, or pipe penetrations in ferrous and non-ferrous base metals.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and general-purpose jobber-length drill bit for use in any standard drill press, hand drill, or mill with a chuck capacity accommodating a 31/64 inch straight shank. Suitable for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium per Series QC21P specifications.
Install this bit in a properly rated drill press, hand drill, or milling machine chuck; confirm the chuck is fully tightened before operation. Disconnect power or lock out the machine before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to extend bit life and manage heat buildup. Do not exceed the recommended feed rate for the workpiece material, as excessive pressure can cause premature tip failure.
