The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996607 is a taper length cobalt drill bit engineered for heavy-duty metal drilling applications. Built from cobalt tool steel with a gold oxide finish, this bit delivers elevated heat resistance and edge retention when working through hard, abrasive, and high-strength materials. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and self-centers on contact, eliminating the need for a center punch in most applications. With a 15/32-inch diameter and a 4-3/4-inch flute length, the bit provides extended reach compared to a jobber-length equivalent. Overall length is 7-1/2 inches. It is suited for machinists, fabricators, and maintenance technicians who regularly drill through ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
The 5996607 is designed for drilling alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, malleable iron, hardened steel, high-strength bronze, brass, copper, aluminum, aluminum alloy, magnesium, magnesium alloy, nickel, nickel alloy, cermet, graphite, and reinforced plastic. The taper length body is commonly used where a standard jobber bit lacks the reach needed for deeper holes or where additional clearance is required in fixturing and jig work. The straight cylindrical shank seats in standard drill chucks, making it compatible with benchtop drill presses, radial arm drills, and hand-held power drills with appropriate chuck capacity.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-production taper length drill bit conforming to ANSI standards, suitable for use in any drill press or hand-held drill with a chuck capacity of at least 15/32 inches.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or tradespeople following applicable shop safety procedures. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and ensure the shank is fully seated and tightened in the chuck before operation. Always wear appropriate eye protection and follow machine guard requirements. Do not exceed the recommended speed-and-feed ratings for the material being drilled; consult published cobalt drill speed charts for the specific workpiece alloy.
