The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996577 is a cobalt taper length drill bit designed for demanding metal drilling applications. It features a 135-degree split point that self-centers on contact, reducing the need for a center punch and minimizing walking on hard or smooth surfaces. The bit has a straight shank measuring 0.1250 inches in diameter, a spiral flute with a 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio, and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration for improved chip evacuation. At 5.125 inches overall length with a 2.75-inch flute, it provides extended reach compared to jobber-length bits. Suitable for professional machinists, HVAC technicians, plumbers, and electricians who drill through hard or abrasive materials regularly.
This bit is built for high-performance drilling in a wide range of materials encountered in trade work. Its cobalt construction handles heat and wear better than standard high-speed steel, making it appropriate for stainless steel, hardened steel, cast iron, nickel alloys, and other tough substrates. It is also rated for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, copper, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, high strength bronze, cermet, graphite, reinforced plastics, and nickel alloy. Right-hand cut spiral flutes clear chips efficiently during through-hole and deep drilling operations.
Designed as a taper length replacement drill bit conforming to ANSI standards, compatible with any standard drill chuck or drill press accepting a 0.1250-inch straight shank. Suitable for use across the material applications listed in the Series M51CO product family.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or trade professional familiar with proper drilling technique and speeds for cobalt tooling. Secure the workpiece fully before drilling to prevent movement. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel, hardened steel, or nickel alloys to manage heat buildup, even though this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
