The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996560 is a 1-inch diameter cobalt taper length drill bit built for heavy-duty material removal in demanding shop and field environments. It features a 135-degree notched split point that reduces walking and lowers the thrust needed to start a hole without a center punch. The spiral flute geometry runs 6.375 inches in length, supporting chip evacuation in deep-hole applications. At 11 inches overall length, this bit reaches where standard jobber-length bits cannot. The straight shank seats directly into standard drill chucks, and the right-hand cut suits conventional drilling equipment. Manufactured to ANSI standards in the M51CO series, it is a recognized choice for machinists, maintenance mechanics, and tool-room technicians working with hard or abrasive materials.
This bit is rated for use across a broad range of workpiece materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, cast iron, malleable iron, nickel and nickel alloys, copper, brass, bronze, high-strength bronze, aluminum, aluminum alloys, magnesium, magnesium alloys, graphite, cermet, and reinforced plastics. The taper length configuration is commonly specified when standard jobber bits lack the reach for deep bores in block, plate, or structural stock. The self-centering point type and web-thinned, tapered web design make it well suited for production drilling and precision maintenance work where hole location and finish quality matter.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-fit taper length drill bit for use in conventional drill presses, magnetic base drills, and hand-held drilling equipment that accept a 1-inch straight shank. Compatible with a wide range of workpiece materials as listed in the application paragraph above.
Install and remove this bit only with the drilling equipment powered off and secured. Seat the straight shank fully in the chuck and tighten with a chuck key before initiating any drilling operation. A licensed machinist or qualified maintenance mechanic should verify that the drill press or power tool is rated for the shank diameter and the feed loads associated with a 1-inch cobalt bit. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to maintain bit life and hole quality.
