The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996374 is a Letter P jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose hole-making in ferrous metals and hard alloys. The bit measures 0.3230 inches in diameter and 4.625 inches overall, with a 135-degree split-point geometry and a web-thinned tip that reduces thrust and improves center-starting without a pilot hole. The bronze coating helps resist heat buildup during extended use. Material grade M2 high speed steel maintains cutting edge hardness across a wide range of drilling applications. This bit is installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and field tradespeople using standard drill presses or hand drills.
This drill bit is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium in both production and maintenance-repair settings. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters. The regular spiral flute provides efficient chip evacuation over the 3.3125-inch flute length, supporting a maximum drilling depth of 3.3125 inches. The 10xD flute-to-diameter ratio classifies it as a standard jobber-length bit appropriate for through-holes and blind holes in plate, bar stock, and structural members.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber drill for use in standard drill presses, magnetic base drills, and portable hand drills accepting a straight cylindrical shank. Rated for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium per Series HX10-HX15-HX18 specifications. Conforms to ANSI standards.
Secure the shank fully in a properly sized drill chuck before operation. Select spindle speed appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter per standard machining reference tables. Do not exceed the 3-5/16-inch maximum drilling depth in a single pass without retracting the bit to clear chips. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to extend tool life and prevent work hardening.
