The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996340 is a Letter F jobber-length drill bit engineered for general-purpose drilling in demanding materials. Ground from M2 high speed steel and finished with a bronze coating, this bit handles steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium without losing edge integrity under heat. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry, making accurate starting easier without a center punch. With an overall length of 4.125 inches and a 2.875-inch flute length, it fits standard drill chucks and provides sufficient depth capacity for most production and maintenance drilling tasks. Licensed HVAC techs, machinists, plumbers, and electricians commonly reach for bits in this size range when drilling through structural members or equipment enclosures.
This bit is suited for hand-held and bench drilling operations in metal fabrication, mechanical service, and equipment installation. The straight cylindrical shank measures 0.2570 inches in diameter and seats securely in three-jaw chucks across corded drills, drill presses, and magnetic base drills. The right-hand spiral flute configuration and regular spiral type keep chip evacuation predictable during through-hole work in the material grades this bit is rated for. It is a single-piece, individual-packaged unit conforming to ANSI standards, appropriate wherever an F-size hole is called out on a drawing or needed for tap-drill sizing.
Part of the HX10-HX15-HX18 series. Designed as a general-purpose jobber drill bit compatible with any standard three-jaw drill chuck accepting a 0.2570-inch straight cylindrical shank, including drill presses, hand drills, and magnetic base drills rated for metal cutting.
Install and remove this bit only when the drill is unpowered and the chuck key is clear of the chuck. Machinists and tradespeople should verify chuck capacity before seating the shank. Use cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to prevent work hardening and premature edge wear. Never exceed the drill press or tool manufacturer's recommended feed rate and RPM for the workpiece material and bit diameter.
