The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996303 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in ferrous metals and hard alloys. Built from M2 high-speed steel with a bronze coating, it handles demanding materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and lowers the thrust needed to start a hole, making it a reliable choice for production and maintenance drilling. The bit features a standard right-hand cut, spiral flutes, and a straight-cylindrical shank at 7/16 inch diameter. It carries ANSI compliance and fits the HX10-HX15-HX18 series lineup.
This drill bit suits metalworking applications in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general mechanical trades where precise, clean holes in steel or stainless are required. With an overall length of 5.5 inches and a flute length of 4.0625 inches, it provides adequate reach for typical jobber drilling tasks without excessive overhang. A tapered web and web-thinned point reduce cutting resistance and improve chip evacuation in deeper holes. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant or cutting fluid should be applied when drilling hard alloys.
Compatible with standard drill chucks accepting a 7/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials per manufacturer specifications. Part of the HX10-HX15-HX18 series.
This bit is installed by licensed machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals using standard drill presses, hand drills, or magnetic-base drills. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify chuck key is removed before operation. Apply cutting fluid or appropriate lubricant when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to manage heat and extend tool life. Replace the bit if flutes show signs of chipping, dulling, or discoloration indicating thermal damage.
