The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996126 is a cobalt screw machine length drill bit sized at No. 50 (0.0700 inches) with a 135-degree split point. Built to M41 cobalt material grade, this bit delivers high performance in hard and abrasive workpiece materials where standard high-speed steel bits wear prematurely. The split point geometry reduces walking and requires no center punch on most surfaces. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration improves chip evacuation and reduces thrust during entry. Right-hand spiral flutes with a 2.5xD flute-to-diameter ratio give this bit strong cutting action in tight-clearance drilling applications. Overall length is 1-11/16 inches with a 11/16-inch flute length, making it suited for work in confined spaces.
Screw machine length drill bits are shorter than jobber-length bits, providing greater rigidity and reduced deflection in production drilling, CNC, and bench-press operations. This bit is a practical choice for machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians drilling hard steels, stainless, and other challenging materials. The straight cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks and collets. The compact screw machine length is especially useful when drilling in restricted areas or when working close to a fixture face where a longer bit would not fit.
Designed as a screw machine length replacement or production drill bit for use in standard drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held drill chucks accepting a 0.0700-inch straight cylindrical shank. Conforms to ANSI standards per specification designation M41CO series.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with cutting tool safety. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout before drilling into hardened or abrasive stock. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to maximize bit life, noting this bit does not support through-coolant. Inspect the cutting edges and point for wear before each use and replace the bit if chipping or dulling is observed.
