The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996103 is a cobalt screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in hard and difficult-to-machine materials. Built to ANSI standards from M41 cobalt high-speed steel, it carries a wire gauge size of 45, equivalent to 0.0820 inches in decimal. The 135-degree split point reduces thrust and self-centers on contact, minimizing walking on hard surfaces. Overall length is 1.75 inches with a flute length of 0.75 inches, and the straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.0820 inches in diameter. This bit is suited for machinists, tool and die technicians, and production drilling operations requiring tight tolerances.
The 5996103 fits applications where stub-length rigidity is required, particularly in screw machine operations, jig boring, and precision production drilling. The shortened body reduces deflection when drilling hard metals, alloys, and other demanding workpiece materials. Its web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces cutting resistance in deep or interrupted cuts. The 2.5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation in short-hole applications. This bit is appropriate for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machines where accuracy and tool life in hard material are priorities.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard production drill bit for use in screw machines, CNC machining centers, and drill presses accepting a 0.0820-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Conforms to ANSI specification designation for screw machine length drill bits in the M41CO series.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with production drilling equipment. Ensure the drill chuck or collet is clean, properly sized for a 0.0820-inch shank, and fully seated before operation. Do not exceed the recommended speed and feed rates for the workpiece material being drilled. Inspect the cutting edge and web condition before each use and replace when wear affects hole quality or cutting performance.
