The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5996022 is a cobalt aircraft extension drill bit designed for drilling in hard metals, high-strength alloys, and abrasive materials where standard high-speed steel bits fall short. Sized at wire gauge number 10 (0.1935 inches decimal), it features a 135-degree split point for self-centering entry without a center punch, reducing walkout on curved or irregular surfaces. The straw finish indicates a heat-treat process consistent with cobalt tooling. With a 2.4375-inch flute length and a 6-inch overall length, this bit reaches into recessed bores and deep holes that standard-length drills cannot access. It is sold individually as a single unit.
This drill bit is suited for metalworking applications in aerospace, maintenance, and fabrication environments where extended reach is required. The Series CO501-6 designation places it in Precision Twist Drill's cobalt aircraft extension line, built to NAS 907 Type J standards. Typical applications include drilling aluminum airframe structure, stainless steel fastener holes, titanium brackets, and other hard or work-hardening materials encountered in industrial and aircraft maintenance operations. A licensed machinist, aircraft maintenance technician, or experienced fabricator would be the typical installer.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use cobalt extension drill bit for applications requiring wire size number 10 (0.1935 inches) diameter drilling to NAS 907 Type J standards.
This drill bit is installed in a standard drill chuck accepting a 0.1935-inch straight cylindrical shank. Use in a drill press, magnetic drill, or hand drill rated for cobalt tooling at appropriate cutting speeds for the workpiece material. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling, and apply cutting fluid when drilling hard metals to extend tool life and prevent work hardening. Inspect the split point for chipping before each use and discard any bit showing tip damage to avoid inaccurate hole placement.
