The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5995886 is a No. 42 wire size jobber-length drill bit ground from high speed steel with a bronze coating. The 135-degree split-point geometry reduces walking on entry and requires less thrust than a standard 118-degree point, making it a practical choice for production drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The straight cylindrical shank measures 0.0935 inches in diameter, matching the 3/32-inch decimal size, and the two-flute spiral design with a tapered web provides efficient chip evacuation. Overall length is 2.25 inches with a 1.25-inch flute length. The web-thinned tip further reduces cutting resistance on harder workpiece materials.
This bit is suited for general-purpose drilling in metalworking, maintenance, and fabrication environments. Its 3/32-inch cutting diameter targets small-hole applications such as pilot holes, clearance holes for fasteners, and precision layout work in steel and stainless steel. The regular spiral and 13xD flute-to-diameter ratio are optimized for hand-held drilling, drill press, and light CNC operations where a standard jobber-length bit is appropriate. Machinists, millwrights, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians commonly reach for this size in day-to-day shop work.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or stock bit for applications requiring a No. 42 wire gauge size. Part of the PRECISION TWIST DRILL HX10-HX15-HX18 series. Compatible with any drill chuck accepting a 3/32-inch straight shank.
Drill bits in this size range are installed and changed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators using a standard keyed or keyless drill chuck. Ensure the drill press or hand drill is powered off and the chuck is fully released before inserting or removing the bit. Secure the shank fully into the chuck to the full depth of the jaw travel to prevent slippage during use. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to extend tool life and maintain hole quality.
