The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5995830 is a taper length cobalt drill bit engineered for heavy-duty metal drilling applications. Built from cobalt tool material with a gold oxide coating, this bit delivers extended heat resistance and edge retention in demanding production environments. It features a 135-degree split point for self-centering entry without a center punch, reducing walking on hard or smooth surfaces. The bit measures 0.1440 inches in diameter (No. 27 wire size), with a 3-inch spiral flute and an overall length of 5.375 inches. A straight cylindrical shank and right-hand spiral flute round out the design. Machinists, tool and die professionals, and maintenance mechanics are the typical end users.
This bit is designed for taper length drilling in a wide range of metallic and non-metallic materials. Its 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio provides deeper reach than jobber-length bits while maintaining rigidity. Suitable materials include alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, cast iron, malleable iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, high-strength bronze, copper, nickel, nickel alloy, magnesium, magnesium alloy, cermet, graphite, and reinforced plastic. Typical applications include fabrication shops, maintenance repair operations, and production drilling on a drill press or CNC machining center.
Designed for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks on drill presses, hand drills, and CNC machining centers. Compatible with the wide range of materials listed in the application paragraph above per the manufacturer Series M52CO specification.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance mechanics using a standard drill chuck sized for a 0.1440-inch straight shank. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify concentricity before drilling. Power down or de-energize the machine and engage any spindle lock before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to maximize tool life, particularly when drilling stainless or hardened steel.
