Product Description

The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5995817 is a taper length cobalt drill bit in the M52CO series, sized to No. 25 wire gauge (0.1495 inches diameter). It features a 135-degree split point for self-centering starts without a center punch and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation. The right-hand spiral flute geometry runs 3 inches in length over a 5-3/8 inch overall length, delivering a 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio suited to deeper hole applications. Gold oxide coating provides lubricity and heat resistance. This bit is built for heavy-duty production drilling in shops, fabrication environments, and field service work where standard HSS bits fall short.

This taper length bit is designed for drilling into a broad range of materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, cast iron, malleable iron, copper, brass, bronze, high-strength bronze, nickel, nickel alloy, aluminum, aluminum alloy, magnesium, magnesium alloy, reinforced plastic, graphite, and cermet. The self-centering split point and cobalt construction make it well suited for interrupted cuts and work-hardening materials where heat buildup and bit walk are common problems. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians reach for this geometry when material hardness or hole depth rules out standard jobber-length bits.

Key Features

  • No. 25 wire size, 0.1495 inches diameter with straight cylindrical shank of matching diameter
  • 135-degree split point for self-centering entry without a center punch
  • Cobalt tool material with gold oxide finish for heat and wear resistance
  • 3-inch flute length (6xD ratio) for deeper hole capacity compared to jobber-length bits
  • Web-thinned tapered web reduces drilling thrust and improves chip clearing
  • Right-hand cut, regular spiral flute; ANSI standard geometry
  • Heavy-duty grade rated for hardened steel, stainless, nickel alloys, and other difficult materials

Compatibility

Designed as a straight-shank taper length drill bit compatible with standard drill chucks and collet systems sized to accept a 0.1495-inch shank diameter. Suitable for use in drill presses, CNC machines, milling machines, and handheld drill motors with appropriate chuck capacity.

Installation Notes

Install in a properly sized drill chuck or collet and verify shank seating before operation. Secure the workpiece firmly to prevent movement during drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the material being drilled, especially when working with stainless steel or nickel alloys, to manage heat buildup and extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or dulling is observed.
