The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5995794 is a high-speed steel extra length drill bit designed for professionals who need greater reach and stability in deep-hole drilling applications. Built to ANSI standards, this 5/16-inch (0.3125-inch) diameter bit features a parabolic flute geometry and a 135-degree split-point tip for fast, self-centering starts without a center punch. The 8-inch overall length and 6-inch flute length provide extended reach into workpieces where standard-length bits fall short. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 5/16 inch in diameter with a shank length of 2 inches, fitting standard three-jaw chucks. Suitable for right-hand cutting operations across a wide range of materials.
This bit is well suited for metalworking, fabrication, and maintenance trades where drilling through deep sections or stacked materials is routine. The web-thinned, parallel-web configuration improves chip evacuation and reduces cutting resistance, making it effective on carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum alloys, brass, bronze, copper, magnesium alloys, nickel alloys, high-strength bronze, malleable iron, hardened steel, cermet, graphite, reinforced plastics, and similar workpiece materials. It is classified as a high-performance grade drill bit in the QC0860P series.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or working bit for applications requiring a 5/16-inch diameter, extra-length HSS drill bit with a straight-cylindrical shank in the QC0860P series.
Installation and use of this bit should be performed by qualified machinists, toolmakers, or trade professionals familiar with drill press or hand-drill operation. Secure the shank fully in a properly sized three-jaw chuck before operation and verify the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent movement. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling ferrous metals to manage heat and extend bit life. Inspect the cutting edges and point for wear or damage before each use; a damaged bit should be reground or replaced rather than pressed into service.
